Kid's Dentistry

Exams

  • The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children to have a dental check up every 6 months.

Cleanings

  • Children cleaning start during toddler years.
  • Special instruments are used to remove plaque and tarter. We will also review brushing and flossing technique.

X-rays

  • In addition to detecting cavities, x-ray are needed to diagnose developmental problems, bone disease, and plan for orthodontic treatment.
  • The amount of radiation from dental x-rays is extremely small.

Topical Fluoride Varnish

  • Fluoride is a natural element that prevents tooth decay.  It reduces mineral loss in teeth and minimizes acid damage from bacteria.
  • Children with high risk for decay will benefit from topical fluoride treatment.

Sealants

  • Sealants can “seal off” tiny grooves and pits in certain teeth that are difficult to clean even with careful brushing and flossing.
  • Sealant application is quick and simple. After the tooth is cleaned and dried, sealant is added to the tooth and allowed to harden with a special light.
